The Instituto Superior de Agronomia (ISA) is the largest and most qualified school of graduate and post-graduate degrees in the Agricultural Sciences in Portugal and its know-how is recognized nationally and internationally. With 156 years of experience, it has adjusted its teaching to the technological change and to the reality of the country, focusing on both quality and modernization, within the Bologna framework.

Integrated in the Technical University of Lisbon since 1930, it has about 1500 students in 3 cycles of instruction (bachelor, master and doctorate degrees) and a faculty of more than 160 teachers and researchers, 149 of which hold a PhD degree. Teaching at ISA has been recently reformulated within the framework of the Bologna process, in order to bring the courses to the highest scientific standards at par with other european universities. At present, ISA offers a full spectrum of different degrees in the areas of Agriculture, Forestry, Food Science and Engineering, Animal Science, Environmental Engineering, Biology and Landscape Architecture.

State of the art research at ISA is done in 5 research centres, producing a large number of scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals. As an example, 4% of the highly cited papers (ESI de Thomson/ISI) were produced by ISA researchers, one of the best ratios of highly cited papers per capita of the country.

Located in Lisbon, in a campus known as Tapada da Ajuda (an environmental and botanical park with almost 250 acres) it is also a pleasant place for events, recreational activities and the discovery of sites, such as the Amphitheatre of Stone, the Belvedere, the Gardens of the Parada, the Rugby field, the Astronomical Observatory, the Exhibition Pavillion, among others. It is located near Parque Florestal de Monsanto, an oasis at the heart of Lisbon. Within this campus are located all the school buildings, including the main building where all the administration staff is located as well as some of the faculty members. This historical building was inaugurated in 1917 and presents a quadratic structure with cloister with incomplete arches.

Near the school campus is the Botanical Garden of Ajuda, the first botanical garden in Portugal and part of ISA since 1918, and with a stunning collection of botanical species.

Both students and faculty members have ample opportunities to engage in other recreational activities, like sports, and also benefit from the close location to river Tagus. ISA is also home to one of the most important national rugby teams (Agronomia), that, since its beginning in 1935, has been regularly winning national championships and cups.

The logo of ISA fully represents what this school wants for the future, based on its large past experience:

an eagle over the motto Hinc patriam sustinet (those who feed the fatherland) supports the vision of innovation, knowledge and the role of the university in the modern society.
