Practical Information 

 

Access to hotels from the airport 
Lisbon has a modern airport that is close to the centre of the city. Participants may use either a bus or a taxi. The usual fair from the airport to the city centre is approx. € 10/15.

Banking
Bank services are available at the Airport, throughout the city and there are several close to the conference venue. Banks are open from 08.30 - 15.00 with no lunchtime closing. The city is well supplied with ATMs. 

Business centre 
A service for photocopies and faxes and other assistance will be available at the Conference Venue. 

Climate and clothing
Lisbon has a moderate Atlantic climate. There are no great variations in temperature. The weather in May is usually pleasant (average 18 to 22ºC). Light clothing is suitable with somewhat warmer clothing for the evening. 

Congress official language 
English. Simultaneous translation for Portuguese and French (rooms assigned) will be provided.

Credit cards 
International credit cards are accepted in ATMs, hotels, restaurants and most shops, as well as car rental agencies. The most commonly accepted credit cards are VISA, Euro card, MasterCard and American Express. Diners Club is not accepted.

Cultural 
A list of the main Lisbon museums and other relevant information will also be provided by the Secretariat (Mundiconvenius).

Currency 
The € (Euro) is the currency in use in Portugal.

Electricity 
In Portugal, electricity is supplied at 220V/50Hz AC and power sockets are of the 2 pin round type. Power adapters are not available for purchase in Portugal. 

Insurance/Liability
Participation in this Congress implies that persons/participants agree that the organisers do not assume any liability whatsoever. Upon registration, the participant accepts this stipulation.

Meals 
The food in Portugal is very good and deserves its worldwide reputation. Prices could vary between €15 (modest, traditional restaurant) to € 50 (luxury restaurant).

Passport and Visa 
Nationals of the European Community only require a valid identity card. For most countries outside Europe, for example USA and Canada, a valid passport is enough. Some countries, however, still require a Visa. Please check with your travel agency.

Post office
Services are available at the Hotel or at post offices. The working hours are 09.00 - 18.00. 

Public transportation
Buses, trams and underground are available and operate on weekdays from 6 or 7 a.m. until midnight or 1 a.m. (maps and information available at the Secretariat). Tourist passes for 1, 3 or 7 days and valid for trams, buses and the underground are available. 

Restaurants 
Information and reservation service will be provided by the Secretariat (Mundiconvenius) at appropriate counter.

Shop opening hours
09.00 to 19.00. Most of the shops are open on Saturday mornings. Several shopping centers are open from 10.00 to midnight, seven days a week.

Greenwich Mean Time (GMT).
