Welcome

Dear colleagues and friends,

It is my great pleasure to invite you to attend the 4th. International Conference of the Iberoamerican Academy of Management, which will take place in Lisbon, December 8-11, 2005, hosted by Faculdade de Economia of Universidade Nova de Lisboa.

The International Conferences of IAM are increasingly recognized as a meeting point to Iberoamerican scholars and all scholars interested in Iberoamerican topics.
The theme for this conference is “Management, Knowledge and Flexibility” and it is our goal to create a forum for critical reflection about management, and the key role of knowledge and flexibility for organizational competitiveness. This is in fact the spirit of the Lisbon Strategy, right in the centre of the Europeans Union’s political and economic agenda.

Lisbon, the capital of Portugal, will offer the international participant the integration of the old tradition of over 20 centuries of history with the modern avant-garde buildings or trendy bars by the river. The city is rich in architecture. Romanesque, Gothic, Manueline, Baroque, Traditional Portuguese, Modern and Post-Modern constructions can be found all over the city. Gastronomy is taken very seriously in Lisbon. Restaurants and “tascas” (small taverns) offer an exquisite variety of food, in particular fresh fish and the dried, salted codfish known as “bacalhau”. Portuguese wine is the ubiquitous table beverage. And make sure you don't miss the world famous “Pastéis de Belém” (custard tarts), with cinnamon and sugar powder, and give yourself a sweet moment! A taste of “fado”, the melancholic music that developed in Lisbon in the early 19th century, will also be offered.

We are therefore confident that participants will not only enjoy the wonders of Lisbon, but also the stimulating scientific program of IAM’s conference.

We are looking forward to meeting you in Lisbon, next December 2005.
